The action „Save the life” is intended to find animal protection activists in each district of city Kyiv in order to create coordinated animal protection network.
The place: pedestrian subway by the underground station „Teatral'na”, the time: workdays approximately from 11 AM to 4 PM.
Ukrainian way of animal protection
Efficient protection of animals should not be limited by building shelters only. This is a complex system work, which includes popularization in the media, polite and based on solid principles dialog with the authorities, as well as elucidative work with the people.
One should admit that animal protection movement in Kyiv has pretty chaotic nature. Animal protection activists act mostly on their own and often go no further than improvising a shelter in their appartment or feeding the animals on the street. Sometimes even the people who sympathize with the animals have no solid idea about how the flayers work, or confuse municipal death factory for homeless animals in Borodianka with the shelter in Gostomel, etc.
Now and then situations occur that animal protectors are not prepared for. They are often related to the cases of cruelty towards animals or calls for catching service that the community organizations must be notified about in advance according to current regulations.
Anyhow, the protection of animals requires solid theoretic background, possession of information and the mental support of like-minded persons, along with enthusiasm and the sympathy with the animals.
Noteworthy is that the action is directed not just towards our closest friends, cats and dogs. It considers specimens of wild fauna in Kyiv, as well as the zones of green where they live, too.
We grow stronger when protecting weaker beings
For maximal efficiency and long-lasting result of our action we need as many educated and responsible persons as possible that could dedicate part of their spare time (2-3 hours once or twice a week) to propaganda with passers. The work with the people includes explanation of advantages of sterilization over the murder, the talk about the funds the city spends for solving the problem of homeless animals. Mentioning existence of the Act "For the Protection of Animals" and the fact nobody but you and us should make it real is essential. And so on.
Animal protectors today still stay kind of dissidents in Ukraine, because the term rights of animals is not widely accepted yet. People that approach our colourful booth covered by pictures of our dear four-footed friends, not always understand us well. This is the reason why we should be first of all convinced in our rectitude. We must overcome inferiority complex in us ourself, and it'll fill our arguments with persuasiveness.
Unfortunately just a small group, along with the initiator, is currently supporting the action. I'm proud of the persons' strength of mind. They are: children's doctor Elena Marchenko, English teachers Zoya Oxanenko and Irina Geraschenko, philosophy teacher Anna Bokal. They all are members of Coordinating Board of the Kyiv Society for the Protection of Animal. But even they can't participate in the action without limit because of their full time employment.
The power of printed word depends on your support
Kyiv Society for the Protection of Animal is planning to continue elucidative actions for the protection of animals. We are about issuing post cards, stickers and flyers dedicated to this topic. In particular, finding new solicitous families for homeless animals stays constantly our focus. It would be appropriate to place such information in the coaches of the underground as stickers. ADs in Thursday issues of the newspaper "Gazeta po-kievsky" together with the TV program have good effect too.
All these plans undoubtedly need funding. An office in the center of the city and a newspaper should make propaganda work really efficient. This remains just a dream however because traditionally the primary focus of Kyiv Society for the Protection of Animal is survival of the Shelter in Gostomel.
Would you like to support elucidative movement for the protection of animals or provide funding, please call 8 067 583 70 89, the coordinator Angelika Komarova.
Children respond to our colourful booth very vividly. Perhaps it'll be less cruelty in our society when they grow up. But it depends on us right now.
