In the end of year 2007 members of international organization MarineConnection, which specializes in protection of marine mammals, contacted us. Colleagues asked for help in finding information about illegal capture of dolphins in Black Sea or reaching other organizations that could help.

In a while KCSPA could supply required information. We informed about scheduled press-conference and protest action (see Angelique Komarova's report), translated materials to English, and supplied post address and email of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Ukraine. The collaboration resulted in the article on Internet site of MarineConnection.

Municipal services locked air-holes in the basement of buiding 15 on 50th Anniversary of October street. Cats with kitties remain inside the basement for already three days. This story tell about saving of young wolf, which accidentally found itself in folk recreation zone in Kiev suburb, by Asia Serpinskaya, her husband and a volunteer of Kyiv City Society for the Protection of Animals.

It finally comes true! Kyiv major Leonid Chernovetskiy announced dismissal of the "main flayer in the metropolis" Miron Kuchinskiy – because of cruelty towards animals and numerous veterinary and financial infringements in communal works "Shelter for animals" (also known as "Death factory in Borodianka").

An educational action for the protection of animals took place on one of the last school days of year 2006-2007 in Kyiv special school 41. Famous security guard Nina Antonova visited children together with journalist Angelique Komarova. And most important and honorary guest was magnificent marbled Great Dane Roger, Nina Leonidovna's faithful partner.

The progress as of June 2007

In addition to the Vet Station, which already exists in the Shelter in Gostomel, we are building new postoperative boxes for 30 animals (extendable to up to 40 places). Animals that just underwent an operation (for example sterilized) will pass their rehabilitation there. Thus the Shelter is getting the biggest in Ukraine veterinary hospital.

A modern humane Law "On the Protection of Animals from Brutal Treatment" was adopted in Ukraine in the year 2006. This is a first ukrainian legislative act that regulates relations between human beings and the fauna in accordance to contemporary views and european legislative practice. Ecologists and animal protection activists in Ukraine and worldwide welcomed the law very much.

Just in a year after adoption of the Law a change proposal No.1105 of 28.12.2006 was lodged in Verhovna Rada. Approval of these changes means comeback to stone age in the affairs of animal protection. However this is exactly what those, whos financial interest is impacted by current Law "On the Protection of Animals from Brutal Treatment", aspire to.

Project No.1105 provides numerous fundamental changes that depreciate entirely protective capabilities of the Law 2006, and causes in this way irreparable injury to legislative basis for protection of animals against cruelty in Ukraine. Approval of aforementioned project is therefore unacceptable.

The signature of the BUT deputy under the Draft contradicts the official position of the party, which its leader Juliya Timoshenko has made public. In a while the discrepancy was detected and eliminated, and the deputy recalled his signature. The advance of the Draft was stopped.

The action „Save the life” is intended to find animal protection activists in each district of city Kyiv in order to create coordinated animal protection network. The place: pedestrian subway by the underground station „Teatral'na”, the time: workdays approximately from 11 AM to 4 PM.

The vice-head of Kyiv municipal city administration Irena Kilchitskaya has signed two decrees that change radically the status of homeless animals in Kyiv.

According to the decree 5, journalists and representatives of public institutions have the right of unimpeded access on the territory of municipal company "The Shelter for Animals" in Borodianka. This decree also establishes the time when the euthanasia is performed: the animals must be deadened on week-days from 10 to 12 AM only.

According to the decree 6, municipal companies have no right of arbitrary catch of animals, this routine is now only triggered by a letter from a legal person. At the same time, municipal companies must inform the media and public institutions two days in advance about the time and place of future catch of animals.
